Walking a Cat in Back Bay

A couple weeks ago I had the privilege to meet up with Rebecca & Dan in the Back Bay of Boston to go for a walk with their cat Mia. When Rebecca mentioned that she wanted photos of her and her boyfriend walking their cat in Back Bay, I was instantly hooked.

As I often do with shoots, I ran to the internet to find some inspiration. I have Pinterest boards dedicated to specific moods, shoots and styles. But I surprisingly found very little for “Couple Walking Cat”. “Engagement Shoot with Cat” got a little more attention, but not nearly as much as its canine counterpart.

I kept scrolling, only to emerge from the internet an hour later and had boards dedicated to photos of brides with various farm animals; horses, alpacas, goats and even the occasional chicken. So if anyone wants their bridal pictures done with farm animals, let me know cause I have a Pinterest board for that. 😉

The (Cat) Celebrity of Back Bay

When I got downtown to Back Bay to start walking their cat, Mia was a little nervous at first. It seemed like she was camera shy or knew that we wanted her put on a performance. She soon relaxed and forgot I was even there. She started putting on her own performance and she would run up to everyone we met and became instant friends. Even though Will Farrell was filming a movie just a block away, Mia strutted around the neighborhood like she was the only celebrity. A group we passed knew her by name, but Rebecca and Dan had never met them before! Her celebrity in Back Bay is definitely showing.

Right around the corner from their apartment, we passed Mia’s favorite bench. She wouldn’t walk past the bench without sitting and hanging out for a bit. Having a puppy of my own, I knew how centered around routine dogs are, but it was very adorable to watch Mia in her routine.

Honestly, I was surprised by the lack of cat walking photos on the internet. Aren’t cats the mascot of the internet? If you were needing some inspiration for your next downtown cat walk, here it is.
