The number one thing I get in my consultation calls is couples wanting to be stress-free on their wedding day. You might think that is a pipe dream, but it really isn’t. Yes, weddings can be very stressful and chaotic. But I am here to let you know, it doesn’t have to be that way. You should be able to feel how you want on the “best day of your life”; whether its happy, stress-free, relaxed, etc.
Weddings are crazy. There may be some unexpected changes, causing you to pivot your ideas or plans. And that’s ok. When those changes happen, it’s quite natural to feel stressed or out of control. But there are some things on your wedding day you CAN control – and here I am to give you some tips on how to have a stress free relaxed wedding day
1. Hire a wedding planner. A wedding planner’s job is to help you out any way they can. From communicating with vendors, designing and planning, they have your back. When you hire a wedding planner, you are giving yourself permission to be present at your wedding day instead of worrying about all of the details. If a wedding planner is out of your budget, delegate to your friends or family. Be very clear leading up to your wedding whose job is what, and trust that they will fulfill their duties and don’t micromanage. Seriously, the less that you have to do on your wedding day, the more you will be able to be present and actually enjoy it.
2. Have a first look. First looks are soooo fun. They are honestly my favorite part of a wedding day. Not only do they help take the stress off because you get to see your partner that much sooner on your wedding day, but they also logistically help with the timeline. If you do a first look, you can get your portraits and possibly even your family and bridal party photos done before the ceremony. Saving you so much time after the ceremony to enjoy your reception with your friends and family. Want to actually be present and enjoy the cocktail hour? we got you. Read more about First Looks here.
3. Elope. Now before you completely dismiss this idea as “old fashioned”, when a couple chooses to elope, its not because they don’t have family permission or doing it in secret etc. Over the years and now more recently since the pandemic, couples are choosing elopements as an alternative to a big wedding. Couples are choosing elopements for their wedding experience because they are personal and intimate. They are focused around the couple and celebrating their love.
Elopements can be as simple or elaborate as they want. You can invite your closest family, or it can just be you and your dog. Elopements can literally be whatever you want them to. The only rule is that you get to make the rules.
So if you have never imagined yourself walking down the aisle in front of hundreds of people, or you get squeamish thinking about saying deeply personal vows in front of a room full of strangers; I highly suggest considering eloping. Plus, after your private ceremony, you can still have a “reception” to celebrate with all of your friends!
